The year 2009 was a hard year, especially for the decisions that I had to think. This year there are two principal matters that make me think about my future like a sociologist. The first one is my paper about the Chilean political elite this paper involve a lot of hard work, so was very important in my year; the second matter is a conference in Buenos Aires, there I think about my career and my life in the university. I believe that this year was a challenging year because I know that in December and the beginnings of next year I have to make a decision for my professional life.
This year is my last year with subjects and in most of the subjects I have a lot of papers to do, so I don’t have much free time. The most important subject this year is called “taller” there I with a partner make a paper about the political elite in Chile, the first term we search theory information about the elites and the second term we search information about the members of congress and the government important people. This was a big research project and I work a lot in this, so I was really pride about the results of this research, the principal results prove that the political elite in Chile had many alliance between them.
In other aspect, this year happened a very important event in my career, in October was the “ALAS” conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There, I learned a lot about Latin American sociology, and some of the conference makes me think about themes for my thesis and think about the sociology in general, for example I think about my objectives in my career and in my professional life. I know that this experience make me a better sociologist because forced me to think about the Chilean society and how to join my papers with my future thesis.
Now when the year is almost to finish I believe that my paper about the Chilean political elite reflect the Chilean society, so I think that I have to do my thesis in a similar theme, about the alliance and connection that Chilean society have. I am convinced that if a work like this year but in my thesis, I can achieve my purpose of be a good sociologist. I believe that if I be a good professional in my area, I can do a lot for the society, because I can plan public politics that help to the people who needs.

Challenges in my discipline
In this decade there are a lot of challenges in several disciplines. In my area Sociology, I think that the most important challenge is articulate with other disciplines like psychology, education, sciences, philosophy, among others. There is a great sociologist who said that in a book called “Open the social sciences” his name is Immanuel Wallerstein.
I think that the sociology has three important challenges, one is related with technology, other with social matters and finally the sociology has a challenge with the education.
The sociology must learn about technology and do things to improve the software’s and the statistics methods. Also the discipline must use the new media like television, internet, newspaper and the things of the new digital age.
My discipline has a lot to said about social matters, because the sociologist can see the society and we have to be on alert about the social changes, I think that a big challenge in this area is be able to resolve the inequality problem, this is a big problem because affect to all society and an important group of population is damage.
The last and most important challenge in sociology is education area; this is a big problem in the current society, especially public education. I think that in this matter the sociologist must do public politics to improve the public education.
I think that the three challenges mentioned before can be changed with public politics and I believe that sociologist can do a lot of plans and social intervention to improve the quality of life.

Historical Debt
The past week was publicated a news about the historical debt to the teacher in Chile, this was a news very problematic because is a debt that begin in the 80’s resulted to the pass of the teacher from the government to the municipalities.
The shocking about this news was that the present government said that there is not a debt with the teacher and not recongnized the debt, also the surprising was that the same government early this year arrange that the members of the parlament discuss this historcial debt and a few months ago they submit a report whith four possible solutions.
This news about the historical debt cause since this friday a teacher strike and still now they are paralyzed and the children that go to public school does’nt have any class.
I think that is a big problem for the government but specially is a problem for the teachers and the childrens of the public school in Chile, because there are the most affected.
I think that the government must paid for the teachers because is a debt recognized for the society and all the social spheres.

Improving your Faculty Facilities
I study in Social Sciences Faculty, in this faculty there are four careers, Sociology, psychology, education and anthropology. In this facility there are four floors, in the second floor is a library and in the first floor is the casino. There are classrooms in all the floors.
I think that is very important the construction of a study room because the library is very noisy and loud, so we can’t study or read there.
Also sometimes in the mealtime the cafeteria is full and the line for food is very long. I belive that the cafeteria is very small for the students of this faculty.
I think that the faculty students must ask to the authorities for a good study room, because this is an important need. The first step is to get to the student union and do a formal request. I belive that the only solution for resolve this problem is the construction of a new study room.
This improvement of the faculty could be a real benefit because a lot of students could stay in the faculty to read and write in silence.
I think to the next steps for a better faculty is the improvement of the computer rooms, more books to the library, more classrooms and improve the chairs. Also I think that the cafeteria food could be more healthy and cheap.

ELECTION DAY
Politicians, thief and liars are all the same!
Now that the Election day is coming, is always a interesting topic to talk about.
I am registered to vote because I think that is really important exercise a citizen right but my problem is that I hate politicians and I see them and always think that they play with the needs of the people.
In december there are elections for members of the congress and president and since this summer politicians are began with his campaings even being ilegal, against the laws.
I think that the electoral campaings not change the opinión of the people, because the most people vote for a designate group like the “concertación” or “alianza por el cambio”.
Chile must vote for a president this december and it’s very important because he is going to govern the next four years. At the moment there are four presidential candidates and there qualities are varied, one is young, other have experience in the goverment, other is a successful businessman and the last candidate was a minister in 1973.
In my family always comment of politics because my father was a leader in his university years, so this is a regular topic in my home, but it never crossed my mind to become a politician, but I wouldn’t bother to be a minister specially a ministry like “MIDEPLAN”, or a departament like the woman secretary.
I interested in this ministries because I think that is in this areas where are the biggest problems of the chilean people. This problems are poverty, innequality, education, health and the unemployment.

Summary from a career-related article from The Guardian
The title of the article from de guardian is “no such thing as a classless society”, its writed by Chris Arnot, this article is based in the life of Anthony Heath who was a classmate of the prime minister Harold Wilson in a elitist school. The article is about the class society in United Kingdom and how this society changed in the last years.
In his younger years he studied with a lot of diferent people, and in several times he felt like an outsider. After that he came in a sociologyst and he is a specialyst in social studies like mobility class. He is one of the researcher who leads the projects and the investigation about attitudes and class behavior.
He and his workmates do a lot of research about class identity and the results of this investigation shows that the most of the people in the UK described themselves like working class, but the stadistics shows that is lest than in 1964. The people who described themselves like middle class rised until 37%, but the article says that there are huge inequalities in this category. Now the researchers are focus in look of the reasons of this inequality.

Criminal Laws
Oh my good!, capital punishment never is a good solution, because this laws not reduce the crime and always are very injust for the family prisoner. Also there is not stadistics that check that with capital punishment are lower crimes rates.
I think to reduce criminality, the laws must focus in the people before committed a crime not after, also must exist good programs for the treatment of criminals like rehabilition centers and good programs employability.
There are many people who supports capital punishment because they said that the laws have to punish the criminals and they have to go to the jail all his live.
In my opinion the causes of criminality are the inequality in money and oportunities for the people, also the poverty and unemployment .
In my experience i have been a victim of a crime, because a few years ago, when i come back to my home at 9.30 pm, I was walking with my boyfriend and suddenly four guys in a car attacked us with two guns, they stolen of us everything and then they go to the car and left. I was very scared, after when i came to my home mi mother called the policeman and they go to my house, I can’t stop crying because i was still with a lot of fear. The police man was really kind, but he said to me “is nothing to do”, a few months later the PDI was called to me for if i wanted to do a demand, but after a time i bored and i never know what is happened.
