About interesting career-related topics

This term I take an elective subject called “Social movements in Latin America” is very interesting; the professor’s name is Carlos Ruiz and he is one of the experts in history of Latin America.

The principal themes of the subject are the theory about the movements in the world and in America and three or fours cases of particulars movements in countries like Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.

I was attracted to this subject because I really like the history of Latin America, it is interesting, special , and is not similar to others continents or countries. This term I learned a lot of this social movement.

This year I was thinking to do my thesis in a topic related whit this subject, I don’t think do it in this particular theme, but something similar.

In the following websites are there information about this subject, the first one is a definition of social movements, and the second is the program about this subject.

My last weekend

It was an incredible night!
I remember it very good it was the last week of May, I was preparing a trip to the beach with my friends but one of them want to celebrate his birthday in the same weekend. Finally we decided not to go to the beach and we stayed en Santiago. I went to my friend’s house on Saturday for his celebration and I had a few drinks and later we went out to dance to a disco called “Subterraneo”. We danced until 3 a.m. then we went to eat to a traditional place called “Empanadium” in Providencia. We stayed there talking and laughing until 5 a.m. Finally I went home to sleep.

That weekend was really special and fun.

favourite song

FAST CAR (TRACY CHAPMAN)

I chose this song, because I really love it!!

The first moment when I listened this song, was in the summer of 2004. I was in a party in a house in Maitencillo beach and one of my best friends shows me this song. In this moment I listened and I found it with a very deep meaning.
The theme of this song is a about a young woman who want to get out of her horrible life, because her father is an alcoholic, her mother is gone, and she sees in her boyfriend a possibility to run away of this world. At first the song is really positive, but in the end she understands that she can’t run away.

I like this song because I found the lyrics very true and real about the life of poor people in all over the world.

The writer and singer of this songs is Tracy Chapman, she is Grammy Award winning. Many people classify the style of music of Tracy Chapmann like “Folks”, a lot of her songs are about social injustices.

FAST CAR

You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Anyplace is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something But me myself I got nothing to prove You got a fast car And I got a plan to get us out of here I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money We won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living You see my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle that's the way it is He says his body's too old for working I say his body's too young to look like his My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody's got to take care of him So I quit school and that's what I did You got a fast car But is it fast enough so we can fly away We gotta make a decision We leave tonight or live and die this way I remember we were driving driving in your car The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I had a feeling that I belonged And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car And we go cruising to entertain ourselves You still ain't got a job And I work in a market as a checkout girl I know things will get better You'll find work and I'll get promoted We'll move out of the shelter Buy a big house and live in the suburbs You got a fast car And I got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me would find it I got no plans I ain't going nowhere So take your fast car and keep on driving You got a fast car But is it fast enough so you can fly away You gotta make a decision You leave tonight or live and die this way
